Mayor’s 2-Year Plan Includes Efforts to Build Local Economy
Mayor Jonathan Rothschild released his 2 year plan, which includes his main economic development priorities for the city. His plan includes input and feedback from community stakeholders collected during his first two years in office. An overarching theme is to continue improving quality of life, making Tucson a place where people want to live and where companies want to locate, in order to build the foundation for strong economic performance. In addition, his economic development plan hinges on five T’s: technology, trade, transportation, tourism, and teaching. Proposals include strategies to build linkages between defense contractors and local subcontractors, ensuring local educational institutions are meeting the needs of local employers, expanding opportunities for trade and logistics operations between Tucson and Northern Mexico, and fostering economic growth through entrepreneurship, technology, and strategic infrastructure investments. Other key areas of the plan include strategies to improve the city’s financial situation, community health initiatives, and neighborhood improvement projects.
