Dave’s Service to the Rotary Club of Tucson Recognized (July 1, 2018)
The Rotary Club of Tucson recently awarded the Orville McPherson Award to Dave for his years of service to the Club and to Rotary International. Dave served as the Club President 2013-2014 and has served numerous positions with the Club. Every year for the past fifty years, the Rotary Club of Tucson awards one of its own members for their years of service.
Orville McPherson was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Tucson in 1921 and a prolific community volunteer. Orville was the Club’s first Secretary. Orville received both local and national recognition. Orville’s many accomplishments included helping create Tucson’s municipal airport and the Veteran’s Hospital. Orville was named Tucson’s Centennial Man of the Year on his birthday in 1976.
Besides serving as Club President, Dave has served in a number of positions with the Club and also with the Rotary District 5500. Dave and his wife Susan have volunteered for the Rotary Youth Exchange program and have hosted several students for the yearlong exchange program. They continue their service to Rotary and enjoy the many activities for the 63rd largest Rotary Club in the world.
